More than 800 members of the National Professional Salon Industry (NPSI) gathered on July 16 to honor John Heffner, president and chief executive officer of CND, with The Spirit of Life® Award during a gala dinner at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. On hand to present the award to Heffner (at right) were industry leaders Jim Nordstrom and Jan Arnold, also of CND. Comedienne Rita Rudner and singer/songwriter Patti Griffin provided entertainment during the evening, when NPSI celebrated an annual fundraising campaign total of more than $1 million. Top contributors to this year’s campaign included Sally Beauty Supply, CND, Conair and Nail Community Cares.

Forman, M.D., the Francis and Kathleen McNamara Distinguished Chair in Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, Mieke (Nesvig) Duxbury, Jon Nesvig, Hanneke Nesvig, 2007 Nesvig Fellow Mark Kirschbaum, M.D., and Carrie Nesvig were joined by more than 300 supporters and 150 golfers for the third annual City of Hope Golf Classic benefiting the Tim Nesvig Lymphoma Fellowship and Research Fund. Held on July 29 and 30 at the Bel-Air Bay Club and Sherwood Country Club in Los Angeles, the memorial fundraiser netted more than $710,000 for City of Hope. Since its inception in 2004, the golf tournament has raised $2.3 million. Including additional fundraising activities, the Nesvig family has raised $3.3 million for lymphoma research at City of Hope.
photo: AMYCANTRELL.COMThe National Home Furnishings Industry’s 16th annual West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament, held on June 4 at Coto de Caza, Calif., drew more than 500 supporters and raised nearly $900,000 for City of Hope. Guildcraft of California executives (from left) Arthur Fink, Larry Quilling, Sidney Blitz and Robert “Bobby” Papazian took center stage, where they were honored for their respective philanthropic and career achievements. Created more than 40 years ago by a group of industry leaders who wanted to help fund the search for a cure for cancer and other lifethreatening illnesses, City of Hope’s National Home Furnishings Industry chapter, which to date has raised more than $40 million, now includes representatives from all facets of the industry, including retail, manufacturing and publishing.
photo: BARRY BAKEROrchard Supply Hardware hosted its eighth annual golf tournament, in support of the Hardware/Homebuilding Industry’s 2007 fundraising campaign, on July 9. Held at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, Calif., the event raised more than $425,000 for City of Hope, surpassing the $3 million mark since its inception. More than 300 supporters were on hand for the tourney. They included, from left, Rob Lynch, president and chief executive officer of Orchard Supply Hardware, Greg Gibbel, vice president of Quikrete, and Rob Lynch, senior vice president of Sherwin- Williams. The longtime industry group’s efforts are projected to raise more than $3 million for City of Hope this year.
