Southern California business leaders Lillian and Robert Zacky have been deeply committed to City of Hope since their youth. The Zackys recently furthered their steadfast support with a $250,000 gift from the Zacky Family Foundation for the Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center.

Their interest in City of Hope began more than 60 years ago, when the future husband-and wife team attended Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. Lillian Zacky was an active member in the Donatellos, a school club devoted to raising funds for City of Hope, while Robert Zacky participated in the Cardinals, a similar boys’ club.
“City of Hope always has relied on private funding to support research into catastrophic diseases,” she said. “My husband and I know our help is needed to make a difference.” Her commitment to City of Hope drove her to become one of the earliest members of the Southern California Food Industries Circle, a group that honored her with The Spirit of Life® Award in 1992. Her philanthropic achievements also have been recognized by the Anti-Defamation League. Together, the Zackys have been
honored by B’nai B’rith and the National Conference for Community Justice.
Lillian Zacky serves as executive vice president of Zacky Farms, a family owned company that ranks among the largest turkey businesses in the United States. Her voice is familiar to many Southern Californians as the radio personality in the company’s long-running, radio commercials. In recognition of her long-term business success, the California Poultry Federation presented her with its Pioneer Award.
The dedicated philanthropist displays equal passion for her charitable causes as she does for her business interests. “I am moved by the phenomenal work being done at City of Hope,” she said. “Even young scientists and doctors have the freedom to shine and contribute — an uncommon practice in most research institutions.”
The Zackys reside in Los Angeles and have two sons, Gregg and Scott, along with three grandchildren, Leo, Max, Alexandra, Benjamin and Samantha.
